Annie Armstrong
Teacher in Victoria BC
Hello!
My name is Annie Armstrong. I love baking/cooking, hiking and being outdoors and practising painting, sculpting and lots of different creative outlets in my free time.
I grew up in Oshawa, Ontario where I went to school at Nipissing University in North Bay. After graduating, I lived and worked as a teacher in Melbourne, Australia. I worked in their special education stream schools for two years before moving to Victoria, BC where I presently reside!
I have been teaching for just over six years, mostly substitute work with the odd temporary contract. I have recently finished my Master’s in Educational Psychology and landed a full time temporary contract for the whole school year this year (Woohoo!) I am feeling a little nervous about juggling a full time job, life and a course… but here we go!!
Although I have taught and enjoy all grade levels, I have found myself settling into middle school (grades 6,7,8) over the past three years. I really like how middle school can be a place for students to find themselves and experiment with their social and academic identities. I enjoy supporting students in their explorations and celebrating their individuality and uniqueness! I also have a keen interest in social emotional learning and find the middle school context to be such an important place to teach and hold space for this learning.
I have a keen interest in Inclusive Education and ultimately would love to work as an Inclusive Education Teacher within my district. I am slowly working through the Queen’s courses to obtain my Special Education Diploma and look forward to learning from and with you all in this course!
Thank you for taking the time to read about me,
Annie
