My name is Anny Smith and I am a student at University of Washington, Bothell. I will be graduating in Spring, 2019, with a BA in Health Studies, minoring in both Health Education and Promotion and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. This Fall, I will begin my Master's in Social Work program at the University of Washington's School of Social Work in Seattle.

I have a background in nursing, having worked for over a decade as a Registered Nurse in long-term care, rehabilitation and Hospice in-home case management. I would like to use my healthcare knowledge, combined with the education I have received at UWB and the social work education I will receive, to better serve populations experiencing homelessness with a more holistic approach, caring for the whole person. I would like my work to focus on youth, women and LGBTQIA+ communities.

I am currently the sitting chair with the Redmond Human Services Commission, the student representative on the Health Studies Curriculum Committee at UWB, and a member of the editorial board on the CROW, Campus Research and Observational Writings journal. I also had the opportunity to volunteer at the Seattle King County Clinic held at Key Arena, September 2018.

Some of the work I have participated in on campus include developing a social marketing campaign to engage youth experiencing homelessness to encourage them to utilize sexual and reproductive health services offered by Seattle King County Public Health Family Planning clinics. I was also fortunate enough to have my research proposal, highlighting the barriers to healthcare for undocumented immigrants due to restrictive policies, published in the campus research journal, the CROW, in 2018.

I participated in a group project to document and archive the history of a local non-profit organization, Women's Housing , Equality and Enhancement League (WHEEL) to add to the Feminist Community Archive of Washington. This archive highlights feminist work and activism in Seattle and the Puget Sound area.

Most recently I was named to the Husky 100, a recognition of 100 students over three campuses who are making the most of their time at the University of Washington.

My main goal is to bring health equity to marginalized communities with an emphasis on respect and justice. Healthcare is a human right.
