At a very young age, I have always been amazed by the power of music. Music has always had a way of bringing people together, bringing joy and happiness to their faces. At the age of 5, my parents signed me up for piano lessons. At first, I wasn't up for piano lessons because I never wanted to play piano in the first place and kids around that age can be quite a handful. I eventually gave in and started to take piano lessons more seriously. A year or so later, I find myself at the public library performing in front of a hundred people. This would be my first ever piano performance. To be honest with you, I was quite a nervous wreck. My hands would shake uncontrollably and my legs would tremble. When I walked across the stage, I could feel the stares from the crowd as if I was being stabbed in the back. I felt intimidated by how quiet the auditorium was as I walked towards the piano. I sat myself down, took a deep breath and started to play my piece. Soon after, my hands started moving on its own and music flowed out effortlessly. At that moment, I felt I was able to express my true self through music. Emotions were being spilled out from the music. After the last note, the audience gave a standing ovation and cheered me on. I looked towards the audience and saw that they thoroughly enjoyed my performance. The happiness and joy on their faces gave me this warm feeling inside. I even saw a mother crying tears of joy. At that moment, I realized that music was a powerful medium that can bring people together as a community.
