A sophomore at the University of Georgia, I’m circling back to a class that surely has man more freshman than not, but one nice thing about this year and the coming ones is that sort of thing seems to matter a whole lot less than it has in the past. My time here has been a great time of exploration and community building.
Design has always fascinated me, and I work as a graphic designer outside of class. I do a lot of work in Canva and the adobe suite and the sort of writing used in advertisements. I am a Landscape Architecture major and I love the idea of working with spaces, creating place is a fascinating endeavor. I do love writing and although its not something I’m on track to work with day-to-day it has proven to be useful in most all of the jobs I’ve had up to this point. Powerful storytelling is an important skill for any person and I’m hoping this class helps me stay sharp.
My favorite novel, and story of any sort is "Giovanni's Room" by James Baldwin, which meant a lot to me and kindled my desire to craft powerful stories out of life just living on a daily basis.
Beyond academics, I've explored Spanish and Portuguese, languages that have opened doors to new cultures and perspectives. Speaking these languages isn't just about words; it's about connecting with diverse people and ideas. Literature serves a similar purpose in my life and I’m excited to see how this unfolds this semester.
Approaching my second literature class at UGA, I'm eager to explore the works of different short story authors. Each story promises a new world to discover, and I can't wait to see how this class will inspire me.
