“I haven’t understood a bar of music in my life, but I have felt it.” – Igor Stravinsky
This is one of the sayings that I found very intriguing. It relates to my life so much. I’ve always loved music but there was always a part of me that I’ve suffered from. It’s my anxiety and depression. But music has always been there for me ever since I woke up from reality. I have always associated with music starting when I was in elementary. I’ve always listened to music when I go home from school. When I have mixed emotions, all I do is listen to some music. It is the same when I’m having breakdowns. Though I listen to sad songs. Yes, it is weird that when I’m sad I keep listening to it. It became one of my coping mechanisms. I love that I become sadder because of the music. Music became a part of me. I just can’t let it go.
Moreover, when I was still a child, my parents told me to learn the piano but at that time I was too lazy. To be honest, I regret it now that I did not focus on learning on it. But throughout the years of finding the right instrument, the violin was the one who stuck the most. Ever since I was a child, my parents served in the church as a family choir. Eventually, as I grew up, I became a part of it too as the one playing the violin while my brother’s the one who plays the piano.
Right now, I’m a music student, taking Music Education in the Conservatory of Music at the University of Santo Tomas. If I were still a child, myself back then wouldn’t expect me to take this course but as I grew older, I loved it.
I aspire to be a great musician. The one who inspires other people too. I also want to be a great influence on other people. As of now, even though it is hard to learn in our situation, I want to learn as much as I can to be a music teacher. A teacher who can handle children very well. To be a great teacher is something I want to work hard for. In the future, I want to go abroad, to work and share my knowledge of music with interested people. Now, I’m doing my best to be a great violinist and a teacher over time.
