Anton Luitingh

Anton Luitingh has been involved in many facets of the entertainment industry, working as an actor, singer, songwriter, musical director, musician and voice artist. He obtained his B.Dram (Hons) Cum Laude degree in Drama at the University of Stellenbosch, where he garnered several awards including 'Best Final Year Acting Student' and the 'Mark Graham Award for Best Student Director' for WOMANIZE. He was also nominated that year for a Fleur du Cap Award in the category 'Most Promising Newcomer' to the theatre industry.

Two lead roles followed in productions of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW as Brad Majors and as Kenickie in David Matheson's production of GREASE at Artscape. Anton was then cast as a principle in the International Touring Company of Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS for producer Pieter Toerien. He was nominated for two Vita Awards for his performance as the narrating silver tabby, Munkustrap. On CATS he spread his feline paws across no less than 12 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He was also invited to join the Australian Company of CATS for a stint as Munkustrap.

This was followed by the South African tour of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT where he played the rock 'n' roll crazed Pharaoh. Another international tour to Germany and Norway followed with Oscar Hammerstein's SHOWBOAT directed by Janice Honeymann, in which he played the part of Steven Baker.

He was then cast in the SA Tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, performing the role of Pontius Pilate, one of his favourite roles to date. It earned him a Fleur du Cap Award Nomination in the category 'Best Performance In A Musical'. The production then toured to Athens, Greece as well as to Seoul, Korea where he reprised this role.

Exploring a slightly different avenue, Anton has recently assisted New York actor/director Anthony Rapp on the South African Production of Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical RENT as resident director. He also performed the role of Gordon in the show and understudy to the lead, Roger Davis. Continuing his collaboration with producer Hazel Feldman, Anton was appointed resident director on the 2008 season of the award winning and highly acclaimed CHICAGO – The Musical, assisting New York director Scott Farris with the South African Production. He was also asked to understudy the role of Billy Flynn. Anton has most recently been seen playing the role of the Beast in Disney's smash hit Broadway musica
