When I was little, I would often grab a bunch of Barbies, a brush and my baby brother. I would boss him into the dual role of cameraman and TV viewer, where for hours, he would pretend to half-watch and half-film this bizarre spectacle with a makeshift cardboard camera. I would interview my 20 centimetre tall diplomats with a hairbrush for a microphone. Although these diplomats were unresponsive, I would make up scenarios. Then, having heard Jana Wendt on the news, I would finish with 'This is Anya Beciack reporting' — I once struggled to pronounce my surname, ‘Beniac’.
Journalism has long been a passion of mine.
As I no longer own Barbies and my baby brother is now over six feet tall, I have had to pursue my passion for media and communications through other avenues.
