The Sun has been a constant in this ever changing world. For millions of years, it has given us protection from winter, giving plants their daily dose of food, and done much more. Man has learnt the art of deriving energy from this major star to be used extensively in industries and even in homes.
Enough sunlight reaches the earths surface each year to produce approximately 1000 times the same amount of energy produced by burning all fossil fuels mined and extracted during the same period. Sunlight does not have to be explored, mined, extracted, transported, combusted, transmitted, or imported. Solar energy is the most readily available source of energy. It does not belong to anybody and is, therefore, free. It is also the most important of the non-conventional sources of energy because it is non-polluting.
