Apparao Mukkamala

A highly experienced physician, Dr. AppaRao Mukkamala balances a successful career as a radiologist with a commitment to charitable endeavors. Born and trained in India, he has worked to give back to the people of his native country since arriving in the United States in the early 1970s. In 2002, Dr. AppaRao Mukkamala joined a group of 30 physicians to found a high-tech hospital in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. In addition to seeing thousands of patients per day, the hospital provides jobs for 1,500 individuals in the area.
Outside of his efforts to improve health care for Indians, Dr. AppaRao Mukkamala has helped improve the lives of children in southeast India. Troubled by the growing number of orphans in the area, Dr. Mukkamala and his wife founded Chinmaya Vijaya, an orphanage to provide food, clothing, and shelter for homeless children. Later, he expanded the campus to include an assisted living facility for senior citizens.
Professionally, Dr. Mukkamala has served as a radiologist in the area of Flint, Michigan, for more than 40 years. The president of Associated Radiologists of Flint, PC, during his long career he has held leadership positions with several professional organizations and published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
