My name is April Hardy. I am orginally from San Diego, California. Currently though I am living in the LA area going to school at Biola University. At Biola I am about to complete my Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. When I graduate in the spring I hope to go to grad school to get my masters in speech pathology. For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for helping children succeed in all areas of life, academically, socially, and spiritually, that they would know the love of Jesus Christ. One aspect that is strong in my heart is providing academic and medical services to children in developing countries. I had the opportunity to go to Peru last september, while I was there I met a little boy who was mute and couldn't speak. The therapist in me immediatly began questioning what will happen to this little boy as he grows up and how he will be affected by his communication deficit as he is immersed more in the local society and being able to communicate is vital. As I was thinking about this, a dream sprung forth, that children who are often neglected medical treatment becuase of their socio-economic status would have an equal opportunity to recieve the proper long term treatment. I believe that setting up clinics in these countries is vital. Along with training and educating the locals to serve their own would be astronmical in the positive effect it could have on their society. I am determined for this dream to come true and look forward to the day when it does.
