When Ali Shihabi founded the Arabia Foundation in 2017, he wanted to introduce a new narrative for Saudi Arabia into the American public discourse. As with many countries in the Middle East, the discourse around Saudi Arabia is often incomplete, plagued with contextual gaps, misinformation, and faulty assumptions. Shihabi, a Saudi national himself, aimed to fill in those gaps and put forward a perspective that could critique the nation's shortcomings without losing sight of its accomplishments or the context within which both exist. Shihabi's focus on his home country has since expanded to include the whole of the Arabian peninsula and its neighboring countries; the Foundation itself has cemented a position as an authoritative voice in American discourse about the Middle East.

Based as it is in Washington, D.C., the Arabia Foundation has ready access to its target audience of political media groups and American policy experts. The organization works in close partnership with a diverse pool of scholars to produce reports, commentaries, and op-ed articles on a variety of relevant topics. To date, writers for the Arabia Foundation have been published in and developed relationships with significant new sources such as Bloomberg, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Politico. The Foundation has built a respectable platform upon which to share its insights on the potential impact of social and economic changes in the Middle East; in the years to come, it will continue to serve as a resource for those who need its nuanced perspective.
