Amanda Richey

Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina

I am currently pursuing Bachelors degrees in Earth and Environmental Sciences and Communication Studies at Furman University. I am passionate about conveying complex environmental issues to a general audience through journalism. I believe that everyday people are the ones who will change our environmental predicament and that anything is possible when people's stories are heard.

I have already begun my journey as an environmental journalist and activist. Last year I submitted an article to an international competition about food security and urban gardening in Greenville County. The article received an Honorable Mention on a national level. Previously I interned with a non-profit research institute working to alleviate the problems associated with coastal erosion in south Louisiana. The Water Institute is renowned for making complex science available and understandable to communities across Louisiana.
