At the end of 2018 I had a truly awesome farewell party at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam, where I have worked for almost 36 years with great pleasure in a variety of positions. As a chief disruption officer I decided to disrupt my own life and quit my job, without winning the lottery. Don’t worry, my body or mind is not yet failing (that is: not more than usual).
I’m on a journey of new beginnings of a fulfilling life without taking the certainty of a job for granted. Reassessing my life and looking for new passion and purpose to get me out of bed in the morning. New connections and engagement, outside the comfort zone of indisputably great benefits of doing what I’ve always done.
Thank you all for the wonderful years and the great party. Perhaps we will meet again in new challenges.
Of course I am still passionate about Education. We are obliged to empower our students for the jobs of tomorrow, not of yesterday. They have to learn how to be successful in an exponentially evolving, high-tech environment. Success depends less on traditional learning and more on the development of the individual talents, the ability to learn new things and apply those learnings to various scenarios and environments: the core skills to continuous personal reinvention. Therefore it is my charter to identify emerging (educational) opportunities that should be on the agenda but are not, and to do the research necessary to persuade people to put them on the agenda.
Besides this passion, Photography is a hobby. Why? When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change... Photography helps.
