Ari Juliano Gema is a senior associate of Assegaf Hamzah & Partners, one of largest law firms in Indonesia (Asian Legal Business magazine, 2013). He has a wealth of experience advising both domestic and international clients in a wide range of industries and sectors, especially in telecommunications, information technology and intellectual property right (IPR) fields.
Ari holds a bachelor of law degree, majoring in international law, from the University of Indonesia. He also attended IPR courses in Japan (scholarship from Japan Patent Office, 2007) and Australia (scholarship from University of Wollongong, 2010).
He is an active member of the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi), the Indonesian IPR Consultants Association and the International Trademark Association. He maintains a personal blog where he writes about law and society at http://www.arijuliano.com since 2005 and authored a book on IPR consultant which was published in 2006.
In March 2009, Creative Commons, a global network based organization, has appointed Ari to be a Project Leader of Creative Commons Indonesia. He works voluntarily to promote and support implementation of copyright and creative commons license for maximum access to knowledge.
He is also an active speaker on IPR in numerous events, and has a particular interest in disseminating information on IPR among start-ups and smal-medium enterprises. He is a mentor on IPR of the Founder Institute (Jakarta Chapter), the world's largest early-stage startup accelerator. In 2011 to 2012, Ari was a seminar speaker on IPR for businesswomen held by Femina Magazine & Bank Mandiri for 7 big cities around Indonesia.
Because of his activities in supporting open license, in April 2012, Ari was invited by UNESCO to share his experiences in the Policy Forum for Asia & Pacific on Open Educational Resources, in Bangkok. The Forum which held by UNESCO and Commonwealth of Learning was attended by representatives of government and civil society from 18 countries.
