Arkajit De
PhD Candidate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America
I'm a Ph.D. Candidate in the Worden Laboratory in the Department of Structural Biology at Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. I'm deeply driven to explore and comprehend a wide spectrum of subjects encompassing cancer epigenetics, and structural biology, with a focus on post-translational modifications (PTMs) of histones. I'm highly motivated to investigate the molecular mechanism of epigenetic complexes that are involved in the development of cancer using biochemical tools and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).
I obtained my Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree in Biotechnology from Adamas University, Kolkata, India. During my undergraduate degree, I was engaged in several in silico projects focusing on structure-based drug discovery on various viral proteins, including SARS-CoV-2, Dengue virus, Nipah virus and G-Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs). These projects were conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kuntal Pal and Dr. Arijit Bhattacharya. I expertise in the area of structural bioinformatics, computer-aided drug design (CADD), immunoinformatics etc., The outcomes of my research works were successfully published in international peer-reviewed journals.
Beyond the realm of science, I harbor a profound enthusiasm for a diverse range of creative endeavors and hobbies. Engaging in activities such as traveling, photography, painting, digital art, and cherishing quality moments with my loved ones brings me immense joy. These pursuits serve as a respite from the laboratory, allowing me to explore and express my creativity while fostering meaningful connections outside of my scientific pursuits.
