Starting in clinical embryology, I had no way to compare my clinical decision making to people who had many years in the field. I had no way to easily know if my judgement in grading embryos was correct, or even close. Except by sitting with senior embryologists at the microscope- who never seemed to have enough time, given their many responsibilities and clinical workload.
As I moved through my training progression, I saw so many areas related to staff “competency” that had no digital management solution .. from tracking my procedures while in “training” to new staff who were hired and needed to track their procedures to prove competency as they learned a new lab’s protocols.
Talking to other lab directors, I realized that tracking the “real time” stats (fert, freezes, biopsies and more) was also a significant challenge. As was tracking and reporting pregnancy outcomes... sacs, heartbeats, biochemicals and more.
Eventually, I wanted to track changes in the lab (new media, new cryo devices, new biopsy techniques and more) for papers and abstracts- and see the effect on blast rate and pregnancy.... how could we easily track those items?!
We started dreaming of a sleek, light, convenient, easy and inexpensive digital and MOBILE solution.
Putting our thoughts into actions, my friends and I built our dream EMR plug in. It is so much bigger than i ever could have dreamed. Looking back on our "first draft" shows have far we have come.
