Arthur May was born Jerrod Marquis Williams on April 5, 1997 in Newark, NJ. His artistic journey began at Miller Street School where he joined the school’s Drama Club and performed in several productions. He went on to attend Arts High School in Newark studying Drama amongst notable alumni like Melba Moore,
Tisha Campbell-Martin, and Michael B. Jordan.
Arthur graduated from Arts High School in 2015.
Throughout his high school years, Arthur was under the musical leadership of industry veterans like Miche Braden, Buttafly Soul and Natalie Wilson at the Marion A. Bolden Student Center’s after-school club, Mic It Up, where he first ever performed and began cultivating his innate voice and musicianship. He was also a member of the Arts High School Gospel Choir from 2014-2015.
He has consistently been a performer in the YOPAT segment of the Lincoln Park Music Festival (2013-2018) and has performed at countless venues in and around Newark,NJ including Newark Symphony Hall (2018) and Newark Museum (2018). In 2016, Arthur joined the Dr. Cissy Houston Academy learning vocal technique, career training, and musical instruction from the legendary soul singer, Cissy Houston. In addition, Arthur has participated in Masterclasses led by Melonie Daniels learning vocal placement, breath control and ear training.
Arthur May is currently a student at the Vocal Workout Singing School in New York City founded by Ilana Martin and has completed the Walking Into Aura course and currently enrolled in Songwriting and Private Voice Lessons.
Arthur May is an abstract soul warrior that has collaborated with emcees, poets and vocalists alike including Felisha George, LOTYS, Deluxz, AFRIKING, Kween Moore, Daria Jones, Adahlia Morgan, Ricky Persaud Jr., Keon Banks and Gozai Master.
He is often compared to artists like Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert, Michael McDonald and John Legend and is projected to release music, visuals, and acoustic performances in 2020
