ARTURO VILLEGAS, JR.

Crystal City, TX

I've spent the past 5 years at Crystal City ISD learning how to teach and teaching how to learn. I spend most of the days of the year making students sing and listen, teaching how to subdivide and read rhythms, pointing out key signatures, cleaning up articulations, balancing sections, and having students work for an ideal sound. And when music's not the problem I'm helping my kids pass their classes, reminding them to respect each other, themselves, and the world around them, helping them remember how lucky they are even when they feel otherwise, teaching them value of communication, providing encouragement, giving feedback, pushing them further, maintaining high expectations, and generally doing the best I can to make them understand that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well. I'm also of the mind that a healthy and informed worldview should be the result of well-rounded musical experience.
