Photojournalist, Former Senior AME Visuals, and Bilingual in Chicago, Illinois
I’m a visual journalist with 20+ years of experience covering breaking news, features, and community stories across print and digital platforms. I’ve led visual teams for six years at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and two years at the Rockford Register Star, and I’ve returned to full-time field reporting and photography.
My staff photography background includes the Allentown Morning Call, Ottawa Daily Times, Des Moines Register, and other regional outlets. Alongside leadership roles, I’ve consistently worked assignments during major news events, maintaining a direct connection to field reporting throughout my career.
I currently shoot regularly on Chicago streets for ongoing practice and professional development. I also teach Video Journalism at Northwestern’s Medill School and mentor student journalists at La DePaulia, DePaul University's Spanish-language student newspaper.
Recent published work includes Block Club Chicago, 15West.org, and Cook County Crime Stoppers.
What I bring to assignments:
- 20+ years of daily news and feature photography experience
- Leadership background managing and editing visual teams
- Fast, clean turnaround with a newsroom-ready workflow (Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, Photoshop)
- Strong access and sourcing in Latino communities (bilingual Spanish/English)
- Reliability under deadline pressure and in breaking news environments
I’m available for assignments that require a shooter who delivers quickly, works cleanly, and integrates smoothly with editorial teams.
