Arturo Fernandez
Bilingual Visual Editor, Newsroom Coordination, and Journalism Educator in Chicago, Illinois
I’m a bilingual visual editor and newsroom coordinator with nearly 20 years of experience supporting fast-paced newsrooms across multiple platforms. My work focuses on breaking news coordination, visual storytelling, and helping teams deliver clear, accurate journalism under deadline.
I currently teach journalism at Northwestern University and mentor student journalists at La DePaulia, DePaul University’s Spanish-language newspaper, where I emphasize practical newsroom skills, ethical decision-making, and real-world workflows.
Previously, I worked at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where I coordinated visual coverage for daily and breaking news, supported award-winning projects, and helped improve response times and digital engagement through more efficient newsroom processes. I regularly collaborated with editors, reporters, photographers, and producers to guide coverage across platforms.
With a background in photojournalism and visual storytelling, supported by a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from Columbia College Chicago, I bring strong visual judgment, technical fluency, and a collaborative mindset to every role. I’m especially drawn to work that values teamwork, adaptability, and clear communication.
My work has contributed to nationally and state-recognized journalism, including Pulitzer Prize–winning and finalist coverage.
