Hello! My name is Ashira Sahunalu, and I am currently a first-year student, majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Georgia.

My parents have always loved to watch the sport of tennis, so it was one of the many sports I was introduced to at a young age. I began playing tennis at least by the age of 9, if not younger. I took particular interest in the sport more than baseball, soccer, or swimming, probably because of the sheer exposure I had to it. What I mainly did at this age was go to tennis practice and practice with friends.

In my middle school years, playing tennis, I had even more involvement. I joined a tennis academy (a bigger one this time) and, with this experience, was able to participate in some tennis tournaments and on tennis teams. Although I didn't play as much as my sister, one notable win that I had (team-wise) was winning the division championship back in 2020 for ALTA.

In this photo, this is actually my varsity senior photo for the Lassiter High School tennis team. I played for Lassiter for three years on both JV and Varsity. During my first year, I forgot where to register for the team, but still attended tryouts on the last day, despite missing all prior tryout days. During my JV years, I progressed from line 3 singles to line 1 singles. During that time, I was able to play the most. For my final varsity year, I played mainly line 1 doubles, but I didn't play as much as I would have liked. I believe that if I had been given the chance to play more, we could have advanced past round 2. Regardless, my high school experience was enjoyable, and I made many friends during my time. While my time playing has been paused while I pursue higher education, I will certainly return to the court when I can, and you can be sure that I'll be playing.
