Asa Walesa Mazomba

Hello, I am Asa Walesa Mazomba, a Construction Industry Professional and the founder of TenderPoint South Africa (http://www.tenderpoint.co.za).

My interest for the industry began at Port Rex Technical School in East London, where I was exposed to Interior Architecture. However, it was my numerical abilities that led to my decision to study Quantity Surveying at Nelson Mandela Municipality University (now Nelson Mandela University).

I always knew I wanted to build a business that would have scale and social impact.

After a very brief stint working for a construction consultancy, my passion led me to start building my own company in 2014, after being aware of which gaps existed in the ecosystem.

My upbringing taught me the importance of community, having been raised by people who did social work. My work experience showed me how I could contribute to society in a positive way. Coupled with my love of helping people and technology, the idea of TenderPoint, a construction procurement platform that assists emerging contractors in being compliant and run projects efficiently and have assisted thousands of contractors (SA procurement platform TenderPoint registers 5k contractors (disrupt-africa.com)) and have worked with organisations such as the NMU Infrastructure Department, CIDB, The Urban Housing Fund (TUHF), The Housing Development Agency (HDA), COEGA and various government departments.

I pitched my idea on the Pitch & Polish platform up until I reached second place at the National competition and having received awards such as the Fruits of Democracy Awards for Business, I have not looked back since.

I have also taken my experiences as an entrepreneur in the Eastern Cape to inform, educate and assist any aspiring business people.

Aside from working at TenderPoint, I am a very active supporter of the startup, innovation and technology ecosystem and how these can be used as tools to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
