Artist in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Hey, I'm Ashely Marshall. I am a ceramic artist originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, but now living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I attended the University of Regina where I completed a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a focus in ceramics and print media in 2012.
My matrilineal Grandparents immigrated to Canada in 1956. While making their life in Canada they encouraged their children and grandchildren to learn and be involved with their Hungarian heritage. This encouragement influenced myself to be involved with Hungarian Folk Dance for 20 years. During my BFA, the Hungarian culture and traditions I was surrounded by growing up began merging with my art practice. I have explored patterns, embroidering, language, food, and her family traditions. The work I have made has a broad spectrum that spans from sculptural to functional.
In August2014, I participated in a three month internship program at the Kecskemét Ceramic Residency in Kecskemét, Hungary with a final exhibition at the Kápolna Galéria. I received a Saskatchewan Arts Board grant for a two month ( May-June 2015) residency at the Medalta International Artists in Residence, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I am currently a Mentee in the Carfac Mentorship program for 2016-1017.
