Ashish Bhalla is a former diplomat and currently an independent consultant on trade and economic issues based out of Delhi. Ashish has worked on projects funded by inter-governmental organizations such as the European Commission, Brussels and Commonwealth Secretariat, London as well as on collaborative projects which had the involvement of United Nations Conference on Trade & Development (UNCTAD), Geneva and DFID, London.

Working with German, Indian and international NGOs, the private sector, diplomatic missions and think tanks in managerial and research roles has also been an important part of his career.

Some of Ashish Bhalla’s key specializations are:

Handling strategic and tactical business scenarios, advising and litigating for various clients from Germany, India and other countries on Anti-Dumping, Safeguards and Subsidies proceedings initiated in Germany, India and other countries.

Advising governments on the WTO compatibility of measures that they are either facing or contemplate introducing in future, from the perspective of possible dispute settlement action.

Advising the apex Indian Industry Association (Confederation of Indian Industries) as a member of its National Committee on International Trade Policy and Exports to make WTO compatible recommendations to the Government of India on trade policy issues.

Ashish Bhalla is the author of hundreds of articles, op-eds, and book reviews in a wide range of publications including the Washington Post, Spiegel, Deccan Herald, The Statesman and The Times of India and publishes an internationally syndicated monthly column through Project Syndicate.
