FSU alumn, Ashlee K. Thomas is a playwright and creative entrepreneur with experience in performance, festival production, marketing, logistical management, and team leadership. Throughout her career she has learned from and contributed to prestigious arts
organizations. This includes Los Angeles based Dance Company, CONTRA-TIEMPO where she served as a professional dancer, teaching artist and the Co-Director of the Summer Arts Academy.
She is the Co-Founder and Founding Festival Director of Melbourne Webfest, Australia’s first and only web series festival dedicated to online digital content. After a seven-year national & international sojourn, Ashlee returned to Miami to serve as the first Marketing Manager for the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, establishing the company’s first website and social media platform and co-writing a winning Knights Arts Challenge Grant in the amount of $75,000. She also served as Manager of Education and Outreach at the Adrienne Arsht Center of the Performing Arts, Miami’s Premier Broadway presenting theater. Ashlee was privileged to manage $1.2m programming initiatives at the center, including Ailey Camp Miami, Jazz Roots, and Camp Broadway Miami, while completing her Master’s in Public Administration at Florida International University.
In 2016, Ashlee returned to the space she loves most; entrepreneurship.
She is the co-founder and President of Miami Urban Contemporary Experience (MUCE) – an arts production company that brings brands & ideas to life with Art. Artistically, Ashlee has written, directed and produced stage plays, short films, web-series, and choreographic works. Her current project is an original stage play, The Busy Bees Great Adventure, where hip hop time-travelling honeybees go on a mission to save the planet. This work has received funding from the Florida Department of Cultural Affairs and will be presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center for the 21-22 Season.
Ashlee is currently enrolled in the graduate musical theater program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, to further enhance her creative skills, strengthen her network, and fulfill on her vision for herself as acclaimed playwright and director.
