Ashlei Stevens

Ashlei Stevens arrived in New York City with no job, one suitcase and a whole lot of faith, which has sustained her to become the host of Uptown Studio on www.uptownunplugged.com. Check out her interviews with actor Joe Morton, aka Papa Pope of "Scandal;" Bravo's "Fashion Queens" host Bevy Smith; singer Michelle Williams; actor and author Hill Harper and many more!

Born and raised in South Carolina, she earned degrees in Mass Communication and Modern Languages from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. She went on to become an award-winning education reporter, working for The New York Times and the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. She also served as education policy advisor to former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, but resigned in 2009 to move to the Big Apple to pursue her dreams of hosting a talk show. The next year, Ashlei served as host and producer of DPVN Entertainment, a web show featuring behind-the-scenes interviews with independent artists, actors and film-makers.

In 2011, she was one of four hosts selected from a nationwide search for Time Warner Cable's "Born to Shine," which highlighted African Americans in the entertainment industry. In 2012, she conducted backstage interviews with top celebs and high-achieving studetns at UNCF's (United Negro College Fund) 34th annual "An Evening of Stars."

Having had the chance to interview Usher, Chaka Khan, Ne-Yo, Meagan Good, and her favorite gospel artist, Fred Hammond, Ashlei is truly living her dreams and inspiring others to do the same.
