I am a Certified Health Education Specialist with the Mississippi State University Student Health Service's Health Promotion and Wellness department. I lead efforts to educate students about responsible alcohol use by providing interactive group presentations and one on one interviews using a self-assessment of student alcohol habits, GAIN (Goal-driven Alcohol Intervention Network). Through a technique called motivational interviewing, our team guides students through their ambivalence regarding alcohol use in an effort to help them discover internal motivation to refrain from irresponsible alcohol use. I also provide information on drug use and abuse.
I have worked in various health promotion settings prior to my current position in college health. I've led nutrition education programs, an obesity prevention program, and childhood obesity prevention website with the MSU cooperative extension service.
I live my passion for improved health through lifestyle choices! I enjoy being in the kitchen and preparing real food with real, healthy ingredients like squash and tomatoes! I love playing with my husband and two young boys outside. We boat and ski in the summer and hike outside in the fall and winter. Health is all about quality of life, and I encourage everyone to make choices now that will positively affect your health for a lifetime.
