Ashley Josey
Office Associate, Student, and Volunteer in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
My name is Ashley Josey. I was born, and raised on Alabama football to the point where Bear Bryant was one of my first words. My grandfather and I had matching Bear Bryant hats.
I am an undergrad student at the University of Alabama, majoring in community studies through the Life Track Program. I work at the University of Alabama with Bama By Distance. July will be the one year anniversary of when I moved to Tuscaloosa. I moved because my significant other became the head coach of the Alabama Hockey team. Before I worked at UA, I worked at Habitat for Humanity as the social media manager in Columbus, Georgia. Before working there, I worked for American Cancer Society as the fundraising and office admin. I attended Georgia Military College where I completed my Associates degree in social work.
College was a struggle for me at the beginning because I was fighting an invisible, and incurable disease called endometriosis. This is a disease I am still fighting today. God has given be the strength to not let it stop me from earning my degree and enjoying life. I consider myself a dog mom, mostly because I am obsessed with my Pomeranian Emma. I would literally take her everywhere with me if I could. She has been trained as an emotional support dog and helps me when I am having a hard time with my endometriosis. I'm also a cat mom to an 18 year old cat named Buster. I enjoy crossfit and feel proud that I can deadlift 200 pounds. Healthy habits such as cooking healthy meals, running, yoga, and etc are things I do for fun. I love everything Chicago; Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears!
I enjoy volunteering. I have volunteered for American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, CASA, Paws, and Bark For Life. I also help friends with working out and eating right. I try to be motivation for many of my friends struggling with getting healthy.
One thing I have to add is I love Star Wars, not like it, but love it. I grew up watching the movies in theaters, collecting the comics, and still do those things to this day.
My goal in life is to be the change that people wish to see in the world. I want to help people better themselves, help them feel happier about themselves, and help them love themselves. Life is hard, and we have to be each others cheerleaders.
