Growing up I always wanted to be an elementary school teacher. I was always trying to teach everyone in the neighborhood that would listen. It was not until I watched my grandmother sit in a hospital bed for months and months, and watching the care and love the nursing staff showed my grandmother on a daily basis. The relationship that grew between her nurses and our family was amazing. They knew us by name and we knew them by name and they would do anything they could to help make our stay amazing. This experience really opened my eyes got me thinking that I wanted to put my personal life on hold to help someone that I barley know.I am currently a sophomore at NCCU. I am perusing a major in Nursing. I currently live in Wake Forest. I am married and we have a sweet little girl. I currently work in an Emergency Department and I volunteer my time in a nursing home where I talk and play games with some of the older generation. Seeing the excitement on their face when I come to the nursing home really makes me feel wanted. There are not many people that have time to spend when them and play games with them, so me coming once a week gives them something to look forward to.“They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” By Maya Angelo
