Astramaria Rodriguez Irizarry

E-mail Biography I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico 1956. I attended Dr. Luchetti Art School. There I received my first formal training as a realist painter. I started at the age of 14 doing portraits. Participated in one of their art competitions where I won 1st. Prize. In New York started taking courses at the Puertorican Studio “Taller Boricua”. I attended silkscreen classes at Lower Eastside Printshop. While drawing portraits on white T-shirts in C.P., I was commissioned to design T-shirts for “Greenpeace”Organization whose offices where on 57th St. then. In Puerto Rico assisted renowned Puertorican artists Juan Balossi and Alvarez O’Neil rendering sports murals for Panamerican Games, when held in Puerto Rico and produced a series of photographs on Puerto Rico’s Architectural Heritage. Attended Art Students League of New York under Ted Seth Jacobs. Also attended classes at Art Students League of Puerto Rico. Worked as an art instructor with elementary school aged children where i coordinated art exhibits for the Day Care Council of New York. Later enrolled in Parsons School of Design. Majoring in Graphic Design under Mara Kurtz, also took classes on, interactive design, multimedia design and photography. In 1994 participated in a mural design contest for the MTA and finished as an Honoree. Presently working as a freelance Graphic and Web Designer.
