My Lucky Brown Shoes is a book loosely based on my years at Manning Elementary School, Roanoke, Rapids, North Carolina. I was born and raised in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
I didn’t jump out of airplanes like her sister, Faith, did in the Army, but she considers herself a veteran too. She has written poems, skits, and plays. She starred in one of her plays as an old woman, which got rave reviews.
This is my first children’s book, but it will not be my last. I loves to laugh. I believes a belly laugh a day will keep the doctors away. I enjoys spending time with her husband, Samuel, who can sometimes be heard telling Audrey, “You beat everything, Barney”—a line Samuel often borrows from The Andy Griffith Show, which means Audrey has done it again!
They live in North Carolina and have four adult children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
