If you are a novice in origami, it is recommended to start with a simple model first. There are many traditional models which are easy to fold. You should first know what valley-fold and mountain-fold are and then you will get familiar with many different folding techniques such as inside reverse-fold, outside reverse-fold, squash-fold, petal-fold, and so on. You would not be advised to start with origami crane since it is not easy model to fold. But paper boat is a good model to fold since it is not difficult to fold.
