Established in 2019, this 90 acre farm is the beginning of a dream of leaving a legacy for the planet, if only in a small way.

Soil regeneration is our top priority at Avalon Eco Farm. Why? Certain scientists fear that our farming soil is only good for another 60 years if we don’t change the way we farm. No pressure then!

We are looking to reintroduce life into the soil by adding organic matter and micro-organisms to the heavy clay earth. We aim to use nature’s own way to do this, by planting wildflowers, native shrubs, and trees and diversifying the animals that graze on our pasture land. Pasture was re-introduced to parts of the farm in October 2019 after half a century of monoculture farming.

We are also in the process of setting up an equestrian facility on 20 acres. Horses are notoriously picky grazers, so having a variety of grazing animals will help regenerate the soil more effectively.

The planting of additional trees and hedges around the pasture land was commenced over the winter of 2019, and our aim is to do this around all of our fields.

We are also looking to construct a large pond or lake in the future, to attract more birds and to provide both the farm and wildlife with water in times of drought.
