Ava Westfield-McCall was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She is a member of the Temple of Refuge Evangelistic Church where she serves as the Mass Choir director, Youth Leader, Praise Team member and Corresponding Secretary.
Professionally, she obtained training in building inspections in 2006 and has eight years of self employment experience with residential and commercial buildings- including knowledge of termite, radon, septic system, and well water inspections. She has also worked as a special inspector for FEMA during hurricane seasons performing building assessments in disaster ravaged areas. After completing multiple annual tax returns for her business, she also realized she had an interest in tax law. While initially self-taught, she went on to obtain certification with Liberty Tax as a tax preparer in 2010.
Still in search of her passion, in 2012 she decided to continue her education in order to answer a higher calling. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Urban Ministry Leadership at Lancaster Bible College’s Center for Urban Theological Studies (CUTS). A servant leader, Ava is super passionate about working with people - especially those that are spiritually and/or physically wounded. She has such a connection with hurting people because of her own experiences with battling Crohn’s disease for 14 years. With her health activism and through the use of her blog (ostomyphilosophy.blogspot.com), she helps others to overcome obstacles on a day to day basis.
In addition to ministry and health advocacy, she has organized and participated in frequent volunteer activities with CCFA (Crohn's/Colitis Foundation of America), OFA (Organizing for Action), GCA (Get Covered America), Diner en Noir – Philadelphia and is a current member of Panorama Toastmasters of Philadelphia. She resides in Philadelphia, PA with her husband, Kyle.
