Abbey Wethal

Madison, Wis.

I grew up on a small dairy farm in Brooklyn, Wisconsin where we milked about 75 registered Holsteins and Jerseys. I am currently a Senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Life Sciences Communication.

With this degree, I hope to pursue a career in the agriculture communications field. This would include anything from marketing communications to public relations to sales.

This year, I am serving as the Vice President of the Association of Women in Agriculture, Public Relations Officer for the Badger Dairy Club and Vice President of Membership for the National Agri-Marketing Association. Additionally, I am part of the NAMA Marketing Team, Collegiate Farm Bureau and Saddle & Sirloin.

Furthermore, I am part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Collegiate Dairy Judging team. I am extremely proud to be on this year's senior team where we placed second at the National Intercollegiate Dairy Judging Contest held at World Dairy Expo. At this contest, I was the fifth high individual and tenth high individual in oral reasons. Dairy judging has provided me with so many applicable skills such as public and prepared speaking, team work and the ability to make a decision within a short time constraint.

This summer, I had the opportunity to work with Pfizer Animal Health as a Dairy Sales Intern. This internship was undoubtedly the most valuable work experience that I have ever had. Every day, I had the opportunity to talk with dairy producers about their farms and milk quality protocols and sell them products that I felt would benefit their farm and maximize their profits.

My combination of leadership, enthusiasm, passion, accountablility, honesty and ability to involve everyone on a team makes me a great addition to any team and any company.
