Prof. Dr. Axel Merseburger
Prof. Dr. Axel S. Merseburger is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of UrologyCampus Lübeck, University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Professor Merseburger obtained his medical degree from Hannover Medical School in 2002 after a one year academic research program in Washington D.C. where he finished his M.D. thesis. He completed a residency in surgery and urology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen, Germany, and was a Research Fellow at the Miller School of Medicine, Miami, USA, in 2006. In 2008, he accepted a position in Hannover and was promoted to Associate Professorship in 2009 and further obtained full Professorship in 2012. Professor Merseburger is board certified in urology and is a member of numerous national and international urological and oncological associations. In addition to serving as a reviewer and member of the editorial board of many prime-source journals, Professor Merseburger is the Associate Editor of the "World Journal of Urology". Furthermore, he is a member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) Renal Cell Cancer Guideline Group and Chairman of the EAU Guideline Group for Lasers and Technologies. Professor Merseburger has won multiple awards, stipends and prizes for his molecular and clinical research and has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
