Ayanda Zungu
Is a PhD student in UKZN and a lecturer in Mahikeng, South Africa
I was born in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, in 1991. At a young age, my parents relocated to Newcastle, where I grew up and completed my secondary education at St Lewis Bertrand’s High School in 2009. I pursued my studies in Physics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where I obtained a B.Sc. in Applied Physics (Summa Cum Laude) in 2012, followed by a B.Sc. Honours in Physics with distinction in 2013. In 2016, I completed my MSc in Astrophysics with an upper-second-class pass.
In February 2017, I was appointed as a Physics Lecturer at Sol Plaatje University, where I served until March 2019. On 1 April 2019, I joined North-West University as a Physics Lecturer. I completed my PhD in Theoretical Physics in 2026, with my doctoral research focusing on dissipation-driven open quantum walks and open quantum Brownian motions. Beyond 'school' work pursuits, I enjoy fresh air and sunshine.
