From Cali to Jackson

My name is Ayodele Kwame Elumide Imani Beckley. I am 22 years old. I'm a senior mass comm major and a minor in art at Jackson State University

I am originally from California. My dad is Nigerian and my mom is from Arkansas. I also have an older sister. I changed schools three times in high school; so you can say that I am well rounded culturally.

How'd I end up in Jackson? I intended on coming to JSU for engineering because I heard how good it was. I also came to JSU on a college tour and fell in love with the campus.

Once I got to JSU, things changed. I didn't like the engineering department because I didn't think it matched my personality. The vibe was too serious and I felt like I wasn't using my creative skills. A fellow student then told me to check out the mass comm department. That's i when I fell in love with JSU. When I got there, I knew my creative skills could be put to the use.

I have so many things that I want to do. I got into making music and after a couple of years of networking and creating, I was able to establish myself as a known recording artist. I've always had a love for production and photography, so my major benefits me heavily. If music doesn’t workout, I want to be a major photographer and cinematographer. Hopefully, either path will take off for me soon. Until then, I will just keep working hard and remaining ambitious.
