Azeez Tobi Abubakar is a sustainability professional, consultant and project manager who is passionate about climate, sustainable development and innovation. He is also the Founder of The Climate Education Initiative Project, a LEED Green Associate, 2021/22 Global Citizen BeyGOOD Fellow and a Global Shaper at the Ilorin Global Shapers Community. As the Director of Programs, he won a $12,000 grant to lead a climate adaptation project called the Ilorin Climate Action campaign supported by the Global Shapers Community, World Economic Forum, and The Climate Reality Project. Leading this project, he carried out grassroot community outreaches in ten (10) local communities, engaging with 15 + key stakeholders (state government, ministries, local governments, community leaders, community members, and civil society organisations) to drive real change in their communities. Azeez also volunteer as the Partnerships and Engagement Chair of the Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN), one of the Commonwealth's youth network of over 2,000+ members across the 56 Commonwealth member countries. Working with youth leaders at CYCN, he co-created initiatives to help support the most vulnerable groups. For example, the #YouthLeadSDG13 Campaign he led in 2021 was launched by the Commonwealth Secretary-General on International Youth Day. He is currently working on the Youth Lead SDG14 Campaign to reward, inspire and empower young people with a £3,000 award prize for their work on the ocean. Due to his incredible work, he was selected to represent Nigeria twice at the #Youth4Climate summit in Italy and the United State of America. For the past two years, he has represented and amplified the voices of the Missing Majority, the most affected young people who couldn't make it to COP26 and COP27 in the UK and Egypt respectively. As a Youth Power Climate Representative at Restless Development, he bshared his story with world leaders on BBC Scotland to influence policy on the climate crisis. This led to the Scottish Government committing some funds to support climate-induced loss and damage. His work has been featured on several platforms.
