Social Innovator in Nigeria
Babajide Oluwase is an environmentalist and a social innovator with over 4 years’ experience in social development practices. With a professional and academic background in Urban and Regional Planning, he has actively participated in numerous community-based projects in the south-western region of Nigeria seeking to address issues relating to education and environment. He is currently volunteering as a Working Group member of the UN MGCY on Disaster Risk Reduction in West/Central African Region.
He is passionate about helping vulnerable people and marginalised communities lead healthy and productive lives, by developing tangible solutions and employing the new media as a tool to disseminate necessary information, promote collaboration, and stir up progressive interactions amongst concerned stakeholders.
In a bid to proffer tangible solution to some of the environmental challenges faced in Sub-Saharan Africa, Babajide founded RenewDrive, a startup research and development company focused on providing clean low-cost solutions for safer household cooking. Recently, RenewDrive was listed amongst the 'Best 50 Business Ideas' in the 2016 Enterprise Challenge organised by British Council.
Babajide is a recipient of the prestigious George Ayittey Platinum Prize in the 2015 continental essay competition organised by African Liberty Organisation for Development. He envisions an Africa where it's full potentials are harnessed for sustainable development.
His career goal is to become an international development consultant, promoting social and leadership development in various institutions across Africa.
