Babangida Ruma was appointed as Peace Ambassador for the Commonwealth Youth Council’s Youth Campaign Against Election Violence (Y-CAEV) in Nigeria 2015. He was a Community Organizer and Nigerian Social Activist, An active Youth leader in Nigeria and he contributed to informed Youth policy dialogues in African Region.
He was a candidate for Vice Chairperson Commonwealth youth council general elections Malta 2015 and a Member of the Commonwealth Youth Council Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN), Member of the United Nation Interagency Network on Youth Development’s Working Group on Youth and Gender Equality. First African International Student Ambassador Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Malaysia.
He was Nominated to Participate in YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa program Ruma has extensive experience working on youth issues at the local, regional and international level having previously worked in various international organizations as well as starting his own initiatives.
He is a vocal advocate for Youth engaging into Politics on several occasions; emphasised the need for young people to engage in decision making processes and also get University education which will help them to bring a positive change in society, He is among the top Social Media Influencers in Nigeria.
Before joining the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) Ruma He has held many other leadership positions. Starting as a student Leader in Primary Schools, he was the school Social Director, and in his Junior Secondary School, he was appointed as Head Boy At Senior Secondary School, he was appointed as the First ever Student Ambassador from Africa in Limkokwing University of Creative technology Malaysia.
Upon joining the University, Ruma became actively involved in student union politics, and eventually elected as the Financial Secretary of the Student Union in Limkokwing University Malaysia. He was later elected as Ambassador representing Nigerian Student.
Because of his contribution to youth development in Nigeria, he was nominated to Contest for the Vice chairperson of the Commonwealth Youth Council General election in Malta 2015. Ruma is currently serving as a Member Commonwealth Youth Council Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN) and Member of the United Nation Interagency Network on Youth Development’s Working Group on Youth and Gender Equality. He was nominated as the first ever Commonwealth Young Achiever in 2015.
