Bad Bena’s journey from St. Ann, Jamaica – birthplace of Bob Marley – to London’s music scene is one of resilience and determination. Born to a Puerto Rican Jamaican father and a Jamaican mother, her cultural roots are as diverse as her music. Before becoming Bad Bena, she worked at Sandals resort, saving for her dreams in fashion and music. However, her savings were stolen before moving to the UK in 2016, and she arrived with little more than hope. Facing the challenges of immigrant life, Bena spent two years couch surfing, learning the ropes of a new country with perseverance.

Her break came when she found work at London’s iconic Hawkeye Enterprises record store, immersing herself in the vibrant music scene. Juggling her passion for music, full-time fashion studies, and jobs in bars, she stayed focused on her dreams. During the pandemic, she taught herself how to record vocals and gained attention on Instagram with her covers, catching the eye of Dancehall legend Bounty Killer, who featured her on his track ‘Going All In.’

Fuelled by this success, Bena used tips from her waitressing job to fund recording sessions at London’s Hot Money Studios, where artists like Stefflon Don and Stormzy have worked. Her single ‘Holy Triad’ chronicles her struggles, faith, and inner strength. From St. Ann to London, Bad Bena’s story is one of resilience and boundless potential, marking the start of an extraordinary journey.
