Barbara Bernard earned a Bachelor‘s of Fine Arts degree in Photography/Film/Electronic Media, and a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Art Education. She taught for School District U-46, Illinois' second largest school district, building strong programs in photography, as well as being an instructor in the highly recognized Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Larkin High School, in Elgin Illinois. With a new high school opening in 2005 and Barbara's extensive expertise in new school startups and art program leads, Barbara became part of the selective faculty at South Elgin High School. Barbara has received professional recognition every year since becoming a teacher. In 2002, she was awarded the Illinois Art Education Association’s Secondary Art Teacher of the Year award, the highest honor in the state for Art Education. Barbara has had her work exhibited throughout the Fox Valley area, as well as in De Kalb, Galena, and Chicago. She received awards in 2001 and 2005 for her photography through the Illinois Art Education Association’s Electronic Gallery. In 2014, Barbara had a life changing opportunity to relocate to San Francisco, allowing her to concentrate on her art and become a mentor to others.
