Barbara Ramirez

Healthcare business office manager and Mother in Houston

My name is Barbara Ramirez, and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I currently live in downtown Houston and come from a large, close-knit family—I have five sisters, eight nieces and nephews, and one great-nephew. I also have a 16-year-old daughter. I’m in my fourth year at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC), pursuing a bachelor's degree in business administration.

With eight years of experience in healthcare and five years in healthcare management, I currently serve as the Business Office Operations Manager at a physician practice with nine surgeons specializing in cosmetic, reconstructive, and sinus procedures. In my role, I manage accounts payable, oversee accounting functions, and ensure smooth business office operations, front office workflow, and physician clinic efficiency. I also lead a team of 22 employees. My career goal is to advance within my current practice as a Practice Administrator or transition into a leadership role at a hospital or ambulatory surgery center.

Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring new coffee shops, watching true crime documentaries, and trying out different restaurants around Houston. I love discovering hidden gems in the city’s food scene and finding the best spots for a great cup of coffee.

Business communication plays a significant role in my daily responsibilities, especially in managing a large team and ensuring smooth operations within the practice. I’m curious—how has effective business communication impacted your work experience, and what strategies do you use to improve it?
