My name is Cassie Barberio and my most treasured possession is a scuffed up, brown and beige suitcase that I bought at Ross in 2011 for 30 bucks. The more injury that becomes of my poor travel companion, the closer to my heart it nestles. You see, this suitcase has taken hits from Paris, Rome, London, Munich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Lima, New York, and various other destinations that are determined to rip it to shreds. Speaking as a standby traveler, it has often been my only friend as I am bumped from countless flights, and even served as a pillow in Washington DC when my best friend and I decided to take our chances and sleep on the cold floor of Reagan National Airport for the sake of getting out of our hometown for a weekend. But this suitcase can’t be defined as just merely a suitcase; the unraveling stitches and worn down pleather represent my sense of spontaneity and thirst for the unknown (which I think are among my best qualities.) It also symbolizes an escape for my loving but smothering hometown Newnan, Georgia and the uncertainty of the future.
