Barnard Smit

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

An audio engineer and performance artist experienced in the design, development, and execution of cross-platform recording, mastering, and mixing of sound productions. Developing new techniques and methodologies for hybridized electro-acoustic drumming. Focused on pioneering strategic synergies between experimental sound design and interactive media technologies.

Smit's interest in audio and sound began at an early age after he began drumming with The American School of the Hague and making make-shift recordings on his personal tape recorder. Having been born without hearing but overcoming it has allowed Smit to recognize the importance of music in his life as well as the unique power of sound across different sects, styles, and generations. Smit is a graduate of the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) of Amsterdam having received both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Audio Engineering as well as additional certification in the field. While at SAE, Smit worked across its multiple campuses in both academic and professional producing, mixing, and sound mastering positions with the occasional opportunity to perform for said recordings.

When not drumming, producing, or recording, Smit finds comfort in rigorous weight-training, teaching himself to play bass, sound sampling, and compiling audio-scapes. For more information or to contact Smit, please feel free to click on the links below.
