Melissa Barnes

I am from Westborugh, MA and I am a Hospitality & Tourism Management Major in the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. I thoroughly enjoy my classes and the concept of my major.

My passion is hospitality. I have been working in this field for over 6 years now and I have loved every moment of it. I have been a waitress, a register clerk, a banquet server, and a restaurant intern and each position has been very rewarding. There is something about making guests happy that is very satisfying for me.

Even when I am not getting paid and simplying volunteering, I get the same satisfaction. I have also been volunterring since high school; including SuperCuts Sccerfest, the delivery of Thanksgiving day meals, Westborugh Senior Center dinners, the Worcester Cystic Fibrosis Walk, and the Boston Childrens Hospital Walk. When I spend time with and connect with the other volunteers and the people we are helping, it gives me an unreal feeling of joy. We can easily discuss why we are here and how we can help more.

I plan to continue working with people and volunteering for as long as I can, inside and outside of school. Every year there is more and more I can do and that is my plan, this is my passion.
