Hello, I’m Barry Cochran. I’m a teacher living in Portland, Oregon. I am a fan of writing, cycling, and music. I’m also interested in reading and arts. Professionally, I am interested in diversity and mindfulness. Major interests are diversity, technology, sustainability, civic engagement, and community outreach. Skills I have developed during my years as an educator include: time management, organization, flexibility, proofreading, ability to maintain paperwork accurately and complete administrative responsibilities, working with numerous groups to implement new technologies, adaptability, expertise in various technological tools, working with teams to develop innovative ideas, and experience in working with diverse populations.

As an educator, I have seventeen years classroom teaching experience at the university, high school and middle school levels. I emphasize diversity and progress at all stages. I demonstrates an ability to engage and motivate students to set and achieve academic goals. I have received training and executed teaching strategies such as scaffolding and differentiation for individuals, with specific experience in areas such as English Language Learners and Advanced Placement. I have also taught Speech and Debate, College Prep, Summer Writing for middle school students, College History, Intro to Business Technology for first-year college students, and guest taught in a wide variety of middle and high school classrooms. I effectively work as a member of professional teams to promote student success. I am experienced at coaching and tutoring individual students. I provide opportunities to empower students to become self-sustaining and guide them to form teams to improve their communities.
