Barry Ostrager, a prominent litigation lawyer and author, currently lends his talents to Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York City. At the firm, Ostrager fulfills the duties of Senior Litigation Partner, a role in which he has represented an assortment of high-profile clients in industries such as finance and insurance. In addition, Barry Ostrager has utilized his experience to author the well-regarded Handbook on Insurance Coverage Disputes. Now in its 15th edition, the manual covers topics including discrimination in the workplace, bad faith, and hazardous materials litigation. Over the course of his career, Barry Ostrager has won numerous influential cases. In Arizona, for instance, Ostrager argued on behalf of Gray Development Group to secure lost profits resulting from a master developer's interference. Despite the absence of a precedent in the state, Ostrager successfully argued during a jury trial that his clients were entitled to damages in excess of $110 million. In addition to establishing new Arizona laws, his case earned recognition by being designated 16th on The National Law Journal's Top 100 Verdicts of 2010 list. In other successes, Barry Ostrager convinced a jury that a member of the Jordanian royal family had been unfairly robbed of his share of profits stemming from a defense contract whose aim was to deliver jet fuel to members of the U.S. military fighting in Iraq. The verdict won for his client nearly $29 million, an amount that is expected to grow by $10 million more. Barry Ostrager holds both a BA and an MA from the City College of the City University of New York. He obtained his JD from the New York University School of Law in 1972. Outside the office, he sits on the board for Sanctuary for Families, Temple Emanu-El, and New York Racing Association Inc. In addition, Ostrager presides over the Board of Directors of New York Thoroughbred Breeders.
