Bas van der Veen

Bas van der Veen was born on the fourth of May, 1986. He spent the first 18 years of his life in Harlingen, a town of fishermen and harbor workers. After graduation from highschool, he moved to Amsterdam to study sociology and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. There, he lived between students and city dwellers until 2007, when he moved again, this time to ‘media town’ Hilversum. Bas obtained his BA in 2008 and BS in 2010. Writing has always been one of his hobby’s: in 2007 one of his short stories was published in a Dutch science fiction compilation about the near future.

At the moment, he works hard to finish his master’s thesis for both studies. He lives with his girlfriend and daughter near Leiden. To pay the bills, Bas works in a political environment with Text, Media, and The Internet.

Mijn wieg (1986) stond in Harlingen. Ik groeide op tussen de havenarbeiders en trotse provincialen. Na de afronding van het VWO aan RSG Simon Vestdijk, studeerde ik in Amsterdam sociologie en filosofie aan de UvA, tussen stedelingen en studenten. Uiteindelijk kwamen mijn gezin en ik via Hilversum in Leiderdorp terecht. Momenteel werk ik met tekst, media en internet, altijd klaar om nieuwe inzichten op te doen en de wereld met mijn ideeën en overtuigingen te confronteren.
