A lecturer at the University of Liverpool's Law School, I am a dynamic, motivated and highly adaptable human rights lawyer, English barrister and mediator, with over twenty years’ combined experience domestically and internationally.

I am a senior consultant, trainer and advisor in national and international human rights, criminal law, transitional justice and rule of law issues.

After ten years in exclusive practice as a barrister in criminal law at the English Bar, I worked for five years as an international prosecutor on war crimes issues for the United Nations, in Pristina, Kosovo and in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I have since worked extensively across Europe, Africa and Asia for many leading international organisations including the UNDP, ICTJ, IDLO, ODIHR and OSCE. I am a registered Public Access barrister by the Bar Council.

I work for both public and private clients, including governments, non-governmental and inter-governmental organisations.

I have three fields of expertise: national and international human rights law and regulation (including business and human rights); justice sector capacity building (including access to justice) in developing or transitional justice environments; and post-conflict justice (including international criminal law and international humanitarian law).

I am an Associate at Global Rights Compliance LLP, an advisory service for governments, public bodies, corporations, NGOs and individuals in the human rights, international humanitarian law and associated rule of law fields.

I am also a qualified civil, commercial and community mediator and founder of Mediation Manchester. I volunteer for Mediation Service, Manchester City Council's free neighbourhood mediation scheme.

I hold a Masters in International Human Rights Law, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Cambridge University and a United Nations Certificate in Cross-Cultural Negotiation.

I am a Visiting Fellow of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, London, a Member of Leicester University's Expert Panel on Security, Conflict and International Development , a Member of the Human Rights Lawyers Association and a Member of the International Network to Promote the Rule of Law.
